Roger Benson began flying as a young man out of Tom North’s field on Highway 96 east of White Bear Lake on the way to Stillwater. In the 1930s, he plowed an airstrip on his family’s farm just east of Bald Eagle Lake in White Bear Township.

 

Autumn is here in all her glory; ignore winter’s approach and celebrate the crisp air and glowing colors with sausages and beer, Oktoberfest-style. The16-day festival originated in Munich and attracts 6 million people annually with beer, jollity and hearty eats.

The White Bear Lake Area Educational Foundation’s ninth annual fundraiser, Beyond the Shores, will be held October 23 at the White Bear Yacht Club from 6 to 9:30 p.m. There will be a buffet-style dinner, entertainment and an auction.

 

The sixth annual Trunks ‘N’ Treats event at St. Stephen Lutheran Church will once again put a fun spin on trick-or-treating.

 

Scott Sims, once a pre-architecture major at the University of Minnesota, has always had an interest in the aesthetics and functionality of buildings, and is now putting those skills to the test by creating construction plans for tiny spaces.
